Vietnam is now the largest furniture exporter to the United States and a top-three supplier to the EU. The shift away from China for premium upholstery, solid wood, and outdoor categories has accelerated since 2022, and the gap is widening as Vietnamese factories invest in design and finishing capability.
Where the quality is
The Binh Duong, Dong Nai, and Long An clusters around Ho Chi Minh City host most of the export-grade capacity. The best factories run Italian and German finishing lines, hold BSCI or SMETA audits, and increasingly carry FSC-certified timber supply chains.
What lead times look like
Plan for 60–90 days for first production, 45–60 for repeat orders. Sea freight to the US west coast adds 18–25 days; consolidating containers across factories in the same cluster is the single biggest cost lever for SMB buyers.
Vetting partners
- Always conduct a physical factory audit — virtual tours hide finishing defects.
- Insist on a pre-production sample built to your tolerance specification, not a stock prototype.
- Pay against inspection reports, not shipping documents.
